Jennifer studied at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles where she completed both the Advanced Fashion Design program and the Graduate Marketing & Merchandising program. She was honored with an award from the Fashion Institute as one of ten alumni (out of 11,000) who were recognized for their outstanding contributions to fashion design. She then moved to London, England where she worked for Frank Usher Ltd. as an assistant designer.

The Atlanta Journal described her as "one of world's fastest rising stars in evening dresses." Her dresses were regularly requested for use on Star Search, The Guiding Light (on which she made several personal appearances), and The Nanny, as well as in photo shoots for celebrities such as Kathleen Turner and tennis champion Steffi Graf. Her designs have been worn by singers Celine Dion, Mariah Carrey; actresses Mariel Hemmingway, Peggy Lipton, Pamela Anderson Lee; models Carol Alt, Daisy Fuentes, Frederique; Olympic skiers Suzie Chaffe, Ivana Trump and the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. Ms. Bawden was also invited to show her dresses at the White House.
